When Vibrators Were Available at Sears

A great article was brought to my attention written in the Canadian University Press by Denise Brunsdon. The article talks about the great invention of the vibrator. What struck me was the availability of such products at an institution such as Sears and Roebuck in 1910. How did we lose such mainstream acceptance of the vibrator? The article goes on to explain: "As the porn idustry began to explore and depict the bounderies of vibrator use, the object quickly developed a negative social stigma and that persists, in some circles, to this day. Apparently, only sex-crazed nymphos, not wholesome soccer moms, would dare to become sexually empowered."
It is ironic how we can regress in women's sexual health especially when so much around us is sexualized. If only we could be as progressive as Sears in 1910!
